Tomorrow is picture day, are you so excited?! I know you have been looking forward to getting amazing portraits and the full model experience, but now that it is here, you may be feeling a little anxious. It’s ok, totally normal, and the best way to overcome that is to do something things to feel prepared.

  • Pack your bag: start by making sure you have everything you need, lay it all out and make sure everything is ready for you. This is where you want to make sure all of your outfits are complete. This includes undergarments and accessories (belts, bags, shoes, hats, jewelry, etc.) I know you have already cleaned and checked your outfits, so you don’t have to do that again, but this way you can easy your mind about forgetting something. Also, make sure that you have all your grooming items to look your best if you are not using a hair and makeup artist. Bring the hairbrush, some extra hair ties, clips, and hairspray. Also go through the makeup bag and make sure you have everything you need. And the last item for your bag is your props (sports equipment, toys, coffee mugs or computers), whatever you will need for your session that can be put away (pets will be a separate step).
  • Confirm the time and location and backwards plan getting there. Nothing makes anxiety worse than running late. Go ahead and drop that location into maps, and adjust your arrival time to at least 15 minutes before your appointment (make sure you also give yourself time to park, and walk to your location) if your session does BOTH includes time to get ready then be sure to add that to your early arrival time. I also recommend double checking with your photographer to confirm your session is still a go, (if they haven’t already reached out to you).
  • Get plenty of rest.  Go to bed early so that you are waking up fully rested and looking refreshed.
  • Hydrate. Drink water. Lots of it. At dinner, before bed, when you wake up, During the day. Avoid sugar or caffeinated drinks that can leave you bloated
  • Eat a full and balanced dinner. The big thing is to try to avoid greasy, fried foods, or anything that might cause you to feel bloated or lead to your skin breaking out. I love a protein packed chicken or steak dinner with some veggies. Also make sure your breakfast is filling. Nothing can make a session go south faster than being hangry.
  • Prep your pets. If you are bringing animals along, make sure you have their carrier clean and ready. Pack up their toys, treats, water bowl, and some food (with a dish) and have it ready with their leash and collar, and any outfits or accessories they will wear. Also confirm that your additional pet handler knows the time and location of your session and will be there.
  • Shower and wash your face. This will of course help you feel refreshed, but also helps your skin look its best for your makeup to stay throughout your session.
  • Have fun. This is going to be a great experience, and you will love your portraits. Enjoy the day, laugh, listen to your favorite music and just know you are gorgeous
